Baklava<< Back to list

Dessert, Middle-Eastern
1pkgphyllo dough (20 sheets)
cupbutter, melted
2cupschopped almonds
2tsporange blossom water
1tbsplemon juice
tsporange blossom water
  1. Mix together the almonds, 1/4 cup sugar, cinnamon, & 1 tsp orange blossom water.
  2. Start by putting 2 layers of dough in the pan, spreading melted butter, and evenly sprinkling the almond mixture. Alternate between these three layers until the almond mixture is gone. The top two layers should be phyllo dough and butter so that it browns nicely.
  3. Cut with a sharp knife into diamond shapes. Bake at 350F for 15 min, then broil for a couple minutes until golden brown.
  4. While baking, bring the remaining water, sugar, lemon juice, & orange blossom water to a boil in a saucepan until completely dissolved.
  5. As soon as the baklava is finished, pour syrup over it, tipping the pan to spread the syrup evenly.
  • Thaw out phyllo dough at room temperature for 2 hours.
