tspbaking soda
cupunsalted butter, softened
1cuppacked dark brown sugar
cupwhite sugar
1tbspvanilla extract

2cupssemisweet chocolate chips
  1. Preheat the oven to 325F (165C). Grease cookie sheets or line with parchment paper.
  2. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar and white sugar until well blended. Beat in the vanilla, egg, and egg yolk until light and creamy. Mix in the sifted ingredients until just blended. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand using a wooden spoon.
  4. Drop cookie dough 1/4 cup at a time onto the prepared cookie sheets. Cookies should be about 3 inches apart.
  5. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the edges are lightly toasted. Cool on baking sheets for a minute before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

  • Don't overcook these guys. When you take them out, the edges should be lightly browned but the middle should still look a little gooey. Let them sit on the cookie sheet for a minute or two and then transfer them to a wire rack. Let them rest for at least 30 minutes so they're at their gooiest, chewiest best.

This recipe is very flexible. These are pretty rich cookies so I usually add walnuts to tone them down a bit. You can also easily make chocolate chocolate chip cookies, by adding a 1/3 cup of cocoa powder.

Taste great after being frozen too.
